Mr. Chai Guohan participated in the IAEA International Fact-finding Expert Mission of the Nuclear Accident in Japan

Mr. Chai Guohan, Chief Engineer of NSC, invited by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), participated in the IAEA International Fact-finding Expert Mission of the Nuclear Accident Following the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami from 24 May to 1 June 2011, which aimed to identify initial lessons to be learned from the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Dai-ichi and promulgate this information across the world nuclear community. The results of this mission would be reported to the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety at IAEA headquarters in Vienna from 20-24 June 2011.
The team of nuclear expert was comprised of international experts from 12 countries with experience across a range of nuclear specialties. During the mission, the team also visited three affected nuclear power facilities – Tokai, TEPCO’s Fukushima Dai-ni and Dai-ichi to gain an appreciation of the status of the plant and the scale of the damage. The mission gathered evidence, undertook a preliminary assessment and developed preliminary conclusions as well as lessons to be learned.
